The drawbacks of pegboard

1. Most people think pegboard is ugly. Some people think it's
utilitarian, but almost no one thinks it is very attractive. Besides its
unsightly hole pattern, there is the problem of hole registration between
sheets. If you arrange the pegboard sides, the holes will often not line
up. Furthermore, on some sheets of pegboard, the hole pattern is slightly
skewed.
2. Pegboard is made of perforated Masonite. Masonite is not a good
material to use where it may get wet or be exposed to high levels of humidity.
Hence, it's not an ideal material to use in a garage.
3. Pegboard is floppy and weak. Pegboard hooks often damage the
pegboard during insertion or removal. Once damaged, there is no way to
repair pegboard.
4. Pegboard is very limited as to what can be attached to it. Take a
look at some of the cabinets and
accessories we offer, and ask yourself how many
could be mounted on pegboard. Almost none.
5. Pegboard comes in two colors: brown and white. White pegboard
looks more upscale, but the finish is thin and needs a coat or two of paint to
completely conceal the underlying brown. Painting globs up the pegboard
holes. Getting enough paint in those holes to cover them without unduly
reducing their diameter is tricky. Furthermore, you'll be dealing with
thousands of holes, and end up with a mishmash of hole diameters: some
almost full size, and some visibly reduced in diameter. This takes a
product with a second-rate appearance, and makes it even uglier.
6. Pegboard hooks can be difficult to insert and remove.
If you still want pegboard, we can supply you with
precision plastic pegboard that has its color molded in. This pegboard
is impervious to water and humidity.
